Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Here we go again, another local tree under threat, this time in Crouch End...

From the petition

Ardmore Construction have been told that this tree needs to be felled as it is not viable for long term retention. They are planning on following through on this advice and taking down our beautiful horse chestnut.

We think the grounds might be spurious and have more to do with saving money than with any genuine concern for this tree being beyond saving.

We are asking that no felling take place until a second independent survey is conducted to establish the viability of this tree. Haringey we are asking you to step in and make sure appropriate surveys are done and that all measures to save the tree are being taken.  Felling has to be the last option, when the tree is genuinely beyond salvage and a risk.

We want Ardmore to do everything in their power to leave this beauty standing for as long as it's possible.  It is a huge old tree and is habitat for countless others species and sequesters more CO2 than any replacement will for the next 50-100 years.  We are in a climate and ecological emergency,  we're can't afford to lose trees like this.

We have only just found out about this and as such the information here may change as we discover more. But if you care for our green spaces please sign.

I've heard that a number of the larger trees on the northern side of Fairlands Parks are also scheduled for the chop in mid July. Apparently they're effecting a house on the other side of the road. The Friends will know more.

They're being reduced to 5 metres and then maintained as pollards. Hard to believe the trees' roots have been found in the front gardens across the road but apparently that is so.

Wonder why they couldn't just lift the pavers out the front of the effected houses, dig a hole, cut the offending roots, insert some of that membrane used to prevent bamboo spreading and cover it up again. That would preserve the trees, protect the houses and avoid annual pollarding costs.

The Savills website advertising the new properties is still proudly stating that The estate agents are still proudly stating that  "The central green space will still host the existing shady mature trees ". So surely surveys were done that showed it was possible to keep the tree as part of the "development".
