Hello. We've just got a house on the ladder and a month in the back bedroom window collapsed. All the quotes I am getting are craftsman prices. Is this the case with these old Victorian windows or does anyone know another way of getting it repaired?

When you say it collapsed, what actually broke? Did the bottom rail come off? What level are the quotes you’re being given?

The glass is still in place, its just the frame. The wood has rotted and fell out of position leaving some open gaps. So we can't move the window up or down and its going to get nippy when the weather changes.
£700 I'm being quoted. I understand that they're basically antique but just hoped there might be a cheaper route.

It might end up being cheaper getting a new one made. Having said that, there's another thread ongoing with a similar issue that has some suggestions. Click the link I've added under your post to take you to that one and others over the years.

I used this company, they were very good but I suspect they might no be much cheaper. Very helpful so worth a call.

We needed repairs to our kitchen window a couple of years ago, and used Acorn Sash Windows, who are on Green Lanes. They did a very good job, and were very nice, working around other stuff in our kitchen. They are not necessarily the cheapest you might find, but we thought it was worth what we paid, as they did such a good job.
