Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

I rarely use Santander cashpoint on Green Lanes because it has such a history of problems and I have had to complain before when it has refused to pay and yet the amount is deducted from my account. The last time that I complained the staff told me that they were aware of the problems but that it would be sorted out, well its happened yet again and  I now have to try to convince them that I did not receive the money they say I have. Beware!

I actually created the account just so I can comment on this and hopefully help you.

I personally work for a bank (not that branch though and not that bank) and I can tell you that the ATMs are not owned by the banks (this applies to majority, if not all banks and all ATMs), it is owned by an external company and that is probably why the staff are unable to assist. Your best bet is to call customer services on 08459 724 724 (the number at the back of your card) and report the incident as soon as it occurs. They should be able to report it and get it investigated.

The ATMs reboot/recount themselves daily and any unaccounted funds get recredited into the account. It has a "log" of such errors that the company that owns the ATMs (and indeed the department in charge of ATMs) can access. For future reference if you ask for a receipt with your withdrawal and keep it for your record, it should make it easier to investigate the incident. Make note of the time that it happens as it would speed up the investigation process.

Usually the money gets credited back between instantly and 24 hours. Sometimes it may take as long as 5 days (happened to me personally with that same ATM).

Kristine thank you so much for your reply, its good to know how the system works. I was helped by a very nice young woman in Santander who has forwarded my complaint to whoever manages the ATM, she also asked me to contact my own bank and happily the money has now been restored to my account. Thanks.
