Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Very slightly outside the geographic purview of this fine forum, but seems to suit this category.

We live close enough to the Hackney border to be included in the mailings for the Woodberry Down regeneration. Claims of gentrification and social cleansing aside, having wandered around a bit whilst out for a stroll by the river and reservoir, it all looks very nice, and I think a real enhancement to the southern 'gateway' to Harringay.

My question is thus. Is Rowley Gardens (the area of tower blocks alongside Green Lanes between the Finsbury pub and the New River) included in the Woodberry Down estate, and therefore the regeneration masterplan?

The most recent data from Hackney BC on the matter I've turned up is some 13 years old, and had Rowley Gardens listed as part of the estate regeneration, but without decant status, suggesting it may be last up to get some attention. It doesn't specify however whether the tower blocks at RG will be refurbished or demolished. All the literature we've been sent through the post has focused on the area alongside Seven Sisters Road and beside the reservoirs, without a mention of RG at all.

Anyone more in the know than I as to the plans for RG?

I suggest you email Phil Glanville the Hackney "cabinet" councillor who has responsibility for regeneration. philip.glanville@hackney.gov.uk

Then triangulate with other sources of information.

Thanks Alan,

Will do so, and report back my findings!

Yes it is included Matt. It's due to be developed as part of the Woodberry scheme, but it'll be a few years yet. Up till 1950 it had a very different use.

Here's a revised plan from last October.

For more try googling a combination of Woodberry Down, Rowley, Berkley and masterplan or master plan.

.........and Twitter tells us:

Cheers all, very helpful!
