Squeezing Customer Services into Tottenham Library
aka "New plans a boost for libraries"
You don't have to make it up.
Customer services from Apex House to be transferred into Marcus Garvey and Wood Green libraries and the homelessness service to be added to Wood Green Customer Service Centre.
This to allow for the demolition of Apex House to make their 'landmark' 22-storey tower. No details yet re how many jobs will be lost but the logic is that most of this admin stuff will be done online in future. There will need to take 20% floor space in MG library, they reckon 10% can be gained by rearranging the furniture and maybe moving a staircase. Details re Wood Green not yet available.
Cost? £5million - £2m Tottnm, £3m Wood Green. Not quite covered by the £3.4 million that Grainger will pay for the ApexHouse site so they can build 152 dwellings, retailing at estimated 500k each.
So - can anyone find a better press release for my competition?
[I've no problem with increasing the services offered at libraries, but this reversal of the way its being done - subtraction not addition to what's there already - is classic LBH spin.]

Other re-writes are available. For example, the London Plan - that document of doom - was revised this year. Page 101 spells out the revised Equalities policy: "The GLA has a statutory duty to promote equality for all people in its work. 37 The Mayor’s Equality Framework promotes an approach that brings Londoners together, rather than dividing them. To underpin this, the Mayor has adopted a new definition of equality 38 that focuses on promoting equality for those groups who enjoy legal protection against discrimination, but also for other groups who may face discrimination and disadvantage."

JJ, it doesn't matter if they are still around when - on its trajectory - the excrement arrives at the fan. They will spin this as success. Announcing that they've modernised manure. Re-ordered the ordure.
Their flunkeys will obediently retweet the spin. They too have no doubts; no second thoughts.
I've been thinking about the criticism heaped on Trevor Phillips for his TV programme: "Things We Won’t Say About Race That Are True". Whether you agree with him or not, he surely deserves credit for showing willingness to doubt out loud. It's so rare for someone in the public eye to reconsider their actions and ideas and want to discuss the possibility that they were at last partly wrong.
Watching Phillips talking to Tony Blair, I had a sudden fantasy that Blair was about to say:
"Trevor, it's good to talk with you. And y'know, let me say this. On the journey of progress that we travelled together, I too have occasionally wondered if I got things wrong. Even about Saddam and Weapons of Mass Destruction. Although I think you'll find I didn't."

There could be a plus side to this. Opting for online services is not bad idea... Providing sufficient customer services remain to help the elderly an disadvantaged.
The real issue is whether Haringey will terminate the numpties or the people who should stay. I bet they get it wrong.
