Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Just had a very weird occurrence.

While I was putting my daughter to bed, my wife was downstairs - we're on Seymour Road - and heard someone put three flyers through the door (a menu for KAJAL INDIAN RESTAURANT, a card for Hayes Gas, Heating and Plumbing and a card for Lady Mini Cabs).

Five or six seconds passed, then there was some scrambling noise around the door and finally a few more seconds after that, the bell rang.

When she answered, there was a large guy who looked slightly unplanned and said "Oh. Um. Number xx (our house number). Right. Um. I'm looking for Cecille."

When she said there was no-one of that name here, he split.

She thought this was odd, went out to see if he was still around and he's split.

Anyone else have anything similar?

Anything we can do about it?

Snap - same 3 flyers, same guy (I guess) but he asked for a different name (can't remember what.) He had a mate waiting in a car for him, thought they were a bit odd. No idea what it's about, what possible scam could that be? We're on Beresford Road...
Burglars checking someone is in and using flyer distribution as a cover? You can find the safer neighbourhood team's contact details on the site - send them an email or give them a call. They do look at this site but maybe not often. You could also call the non emergency police number tonight if you think they are still around now.
Yep, me too. I didn't see the guy but I just got home (Hewitt) and found the three flyers.

Searched for the safer neighbourhood team contact details, but couldn't see them anywhere.

Anyone got them to hand?

They are here
Cheers Liz.
To find it again, Hugh - public service tab up top, then Local Policing on drop-down menu.

I'm curious as to how this works, though.

Aren't they traceable is they're delivering leaflets?

Or do they save these leaflets up from somewhere?

If so, weird that they're all the same, no?

Or just clever.

And what are they looking for?

Presumably not just empthy houses?

Is it to do with sizing up how easy locks / doors are to jimmy open?

or which houses are inhabited by scary people with dogs?

Or what?

You could let them know that might have been rumbled by saying

"Yes, you've come at just the right time. Luckily Cecile is in!

Would you like me to go and get her?"

We also received his visit/flyers on Fairfax Road on Saturday evening.  The first flyer coming through the letter box sounded odd (not the usual fast metal sound of the letterbox)  But then having two flyers coming through in quick succession sounded a little bit suspicious.  I was however too occupied with my 2 year old and his lego.  So by the time I finally got to the door there was nobody there.  I saw the flyers on the floor and thought everything was ok, until I saw this thread.

Maybe time to start keeping a small camera with flash next to the front door... When the random man comes knocking, take his pic and send it on to the SNT...

I fitted CCTV out front and back a while back (after neighbours were burgled), so I reckon the swine will keep away from ours (I hope....)... Was very useful when I thought the dustmen had knocked over our front wall - found it to be a mean looking dog instead! Have to say, the CCTV is peace of mind especially when we're on holiday - shame I felt it had to go up though!

out of interest how much is CCTV to be installed? it sounds expensive!
