Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

I just bought a portable AC unit for my study. At the moment I am just sticking the hose out of the window but that means the heat is coming in from the window. Does anyone know anyone who could do something a bit more effective- possibly make a hole in the wall for the hosepipe to come out of or something similar? thanking you in advance.

Cut a bit of cardboard to fit the gap, and cut a hole for the hosepipe? May not look pretty but it would stop most of the warm air coming in.

You can buy kits on Amazon to seal the window around the hose. Just search Aircon window seal. Pretty inexpensive but work.

that is really great advice- have you bought one yourself. I saw something on Amazon that might do the job but I am super bad at DIY and wondering if you know anyone local who might fit it for me?

I'd always wondered about using a chimney (if you have one and it works). Surely designed to vent hour air? Let me know how you get on if you try it!

i don't have a chimney in the study as its a converted attic

Not sure if hot damp air is as innocuous as hot dry air.

The chimney would have to be lined as for a gas fire.

Carbon monoxide from a gas fire is obviously a very bad thing. What comes out of an AC unit other than heat and moisture?

Not disputing you, just wondering.

The moisture will condense on the inside of the chimney and will attack the brickwork causing it to lean.

Makes sense, thanks.

It depends on your window what you need but there are a variety of kits that block off the window gap apart from the exhaust pipe. Different types are used for different windows.
