Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Following the successful trial of play streets in Pemberton Road (and elsewhere?), the Council is set to roll the scheme out across the borough next year.

The schemes will be run by local residents, with the council responsible for helping to close roads where applicable.

Applications for Play Streets will be free to make and there will be no fee for closing roads if a scheme is approved.

Residents making Play Streets applications will need to show that they have consulted with neighbours and secured the backing of most residents in their street.

Certain streets will not be eligible (see attached list). In Harringay this includes Wightman, Alroy, Salisbury and St Ann's.

Full details of the application process and excluded roads will be available online shortly.

Paul Harvey & Paul W (Wheeler) set up the first Play Street in Harringay on Clarendon & Avondale Roads, and I followed with one on Pemberton. If you are thinking of setting up a Play Street feel free to contact any of us for advice.

Paul W has set up a FaceBook page devoted to Haringey Play Street so as to share experiences and knowledge. Please contact Paul W with you contacts for an invite to the page.

Having run 3 Play Streets now on Pemberton I cannot tell you how great it is to get the road closed and getting our neighbours out and talking! Fantastic.
