Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Does anyone know what the front bit at the bottom of the fireplace is called?
Need to find a new (old) one. It's 40x 14cm approx...

Thanks.

Try Original Features in Crouchie.
Try grate cover.
Just looked yes it's called grate cover And lots on eBay I just put in grate cover for old fireplace and it worked

There is a reclimation yard on Southgate road http://thearchitecturalforum.com

The best place (if you have a car)  is Stone Age up north of Enfield.  They have loads of fireplaces and we were able to find a replacement for ours. It's fascinating to walk round and see all the fantastic stuff they've reclaimed

Yep they have stuff like this

best to take a cardboard template of your missing part, or rather the space it takes.

and this

they also do good stripping. Why buy new?

PS It's not too far from Crews Hill rail station

Brilliant thank you!
I went there in the summer and it's a real treasure trove. They have six inch square, thick, black and red quarry tiles (the kind a lot of Ladder properties have set into outside paths and which are impossible to buy new). The staff there don't mind you wandering around to your hearts content. A lot of the stuff is outside so pick a dry day to visit.

We had our fireplace stripped there, as it had been painted over with lurid orange paint sometime in the 80s (WHY?) and it was beautiful when it emerged.  They've also got a whole warehouse full of old Victorian panel doors, and we managed to do up several in our house from their stock.
