Harringay online

Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

With no notice by email, letter or road signage, I received two letters today from National Parking Control with new road-specific permits attached.

The wording on both is the same, save for one permit being red and one green. The red one has a V on it and the green one an R, so I presume that means visitor and resident.

These are for use in my 'allocated parking bay'.

This leave me with a number of questions. (There's a number to ring but obviously no reply on a Saturday and it reroutes to a mobile where I've left a voice message)

- They start on the date on the letter, which is yesterday. So already have I technically put myself at risk of a fine? Who knows.

- What is my 'allocated parking bay'? Outside my house or just any of the designated resident bays along the street?

- Is this hyper-local permit an addition to my Haringey CPZ annual permit?

- Which other roads in my CPZ have similar schemes - which would presumably mean that I can't park on them?

- how do other Harringay residents in my CPZ know they cannot park on my road? (just so readers know, it's Lyttleton Road.)

- how does the V permit work, if it is for visitors? Do I have to peel it off every time a visitor leaves for the next one to use? Do I still need to pay for visitor permits online?

- if the V is not for visitors, what is it for?!

Can anyone who's had a similar letter or is privy to more information than me shed any light on the changes being introduced?

That’s really odd. I assume you don’t live in a block with private parking?  The only thing I can think of it that it’s meant for LyttELton Road, N2, rather than LyttLEton Road, N22.  The N2 one has large mansion blocks along it which probably have private parking.

It’s addressed to me at my N8 post code …

and it’s all houses on this road. Two disabled bays but otherwise unmarked beyond general resident use on one side and pay-to-park on the other

there are an excess of cars generally parked here though, from elsewhere in the CPZ, and it’s often hard to get a space, so if this does disperse some of these I’m all for it

Sounds a bit scammy Robin - especially as the number goes to a mobile.

That is NPCs number - it’s on their site. Probably just not minored / diverted on a Saturday

i do think it must be an admin error

Hi Robin, you've posted below that you do have a valid Haringey permit which is, for Haringey as the enforcing authority, all that you need to comply with their regulations.

Beyond that, I hope it is just a one-off scam that isn't followed up. If it is, 'Money Saving Expert' and the like may be useful.

That all looks most irregular.

I'd contact Haringey ASAP and I dare say you have! I assume you have a current valid resident's permit from Haringey?

Haringey Council does not use "National Parking Control" as their Parking permits back office IT provider, they use 'Taranto', and it's all done online through Haringey's website - indeed, the whole thing is done online with 'virtual' residents and visitors permits.     ** So no paper should ever reach you or me from Haringey**.

"National Parking Control" 's website is at  https://www.nationalparkingcontrol.co.uk/   They seem to specialise in car parks, not on-street parking (which is all that Lyttleton Road has, I think?).

If the documentation you've received doesn't match that URL, or lacks a URL, that would be another suspicious fact.

Googling " Haringey "National Parking Permits" " goes nowhere.

Googling " Haringey Taranto" gets to lots of valid results.

Yes I have a regular permit

it’s legit in that it has the correct letter head and URL

I’ll leave a message for the council and try them on Saturday.

Other residents haven’t had it so I think it must be an admin error

this is the letter, attached fyi.

yes that’s the number - it diverts to a mobile log no one picks up

i mean it’s probably an NCP error

Ah. Sorry to natter on, and I may just be spotting a typo in pedant mode, but your quoted 'NCP' is the large company 'National Car Parks'.  NPC - 'National Parking Control' has apparently contacted you, not the other mob.

Don’t know if this has been resolved yet, but could it be confusion by NPC about the two specific disabled parking bays that have numbered permits and are for exclusive use of specified residents? Possible mis-addressing to you instead of a disabled permit holder? It would perhaps explain the semi-permanent stickers you seem to have received. The rest of the street is, as you say, a mixture of respark and P&D spaces in the Wood Green CPZ, so would all be controlled electronically.
