Our local heron

At 8.30pm yesterday he was perched, one legged, on a New River bridge rail:

and at 6am this morning he was standing in ankle deep water in search of breakfast:

Handsome, thank you Dick.

No photos but I have recently seen a cormorant swimming underwater at the south end of the Ladder and putting the wind up the on-surface ducks.

3 weks ago, I saw a cormorant doing just that in the New River between Duckett and Cavendish Roads. Under for a few metres, then up and then under again, all at a fair speed.
