Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Video: Dog mauls our cat to death

Video: Careless owner and dog return next day and enter yard again

Last month, an off-lead dog entered the front yard of our next door neighbours where our cat was relaxing as she usually does and mauled her to death. The owner made very little effort to stop the dog attack and even proceeded to return with the dog the next day to let it roam the front yard again.

Intended to post this last month but have been busy with the police who unfortunately are unable to do anything about the attack as the man is unidentifiable.

Our family is devastated about the loss of our sweet Tiddles who we have had for over 13 years. I feel I would be doing a disservice to the community by not sharing this as next time it might not be a cat, but a young child. To the man who continues to allow his clearly aggressive dog to roam the streets (we have caught it on our doorbell camera), you should be ashamed of your dangerous actions.

This incident occurred on Effingham Road. If anyone happens to recognise the owner or dog please do let us know. Please keep your aggressive dogs on a leash.

EDIT (14/03/2026): A couple people contacted the police about their concerns and the police just got in contact with me again. They are looking into it and have spoken to who they believe the owner to be but so far the case is still closed for now :/

Also, if we could provide a dose of cortisol reducing pills and critical thinking skills to tabloid-devouring scaremongers, the world could be a happier place, but here we are.

Should have expected someone to come along and suggest that all dogs be eliminated.

Do we really have to push every topic to the extreme? Can we please focus on the one known dangerous dog, without turning this into some sort of cat vs dog crusade?

Agree! This is a serious topic for the person who started the thread and trying to turn it into a personal comedy sketch is not funny and rather tedious.

WITHOUT that magic wand, any Crusade is unlikely to go far.

However, if we focus on the one known dangerous dog, we are then able to turn a blind eye to the wider context. The rough annual picture in the UK is:

Police-recorded injury incidents … ~30,000–32,000

Hospital admissions … ~8,000–9,000

Fatalities … ~5–15 per year

Great stats. Let's do humans now :) How many fatalities?

And millions of wildlife killed by cats vs dogs?

I love cats btw.

Please don't derail the thread any further.

Oh my god that is awful. I’m so sorry to hear that. My heart goes out to you. RIP furry friend. Hope they find him

I'm so upset to read this and send my heartfelt sympathy to you.  I'm a dog owner (and a cat lover), and I think it completely unacceptable to have a dog off a lead in a city whilst walking in the streets.  I've come across an increasing number of dogs off leads and their owners are always 'oh my dog is so well behaved he doesn't need to be on a lead', but that's not the point.  I've seen these dogs pooh on the pavement and the owners are obvlivious because they are so far ahead of the dog - unacceptable.  I've seen the dogs wander into people's front gardens - unacceptable.  I've seen people who are scared of dogs genuinely frightened by an off lead dog approaching them - unacceptable.  Also, dogs on lead do not react well to dogs off leads.  I don't care how well behaved you're dog is - PUT IT ON A LEAD WHEN WALKING IN THE STREET.

Thank you for pointing these things out! I have an aversion to dogs and hate to see them off a lead when I'm walking in the streets, in shops and cafes. There are plenty of parks you can take your dog to to run around off the lead.  I hope this guy is caught before his dog attacks any other animal or a person.

No dog should be walked off lead in the street, and dogs should also be kept on leads in busy parks where people are picnicking on the grass, playing football etc. I would never let my dog off if I thought she might run up to people milling around. She's considered one of friendliest of all breeds and is the dopiest dog imaginable, but I know that if a person was scared of dogs she'll look scary and threatening regardless.

I'm extremely sorry to have to revive this thread, but another cat has been killed by what appears to be the same dog, this time on Saturday in Walpole Road. The owner has extremely clear footage of the moment of the attack, which means the person should be easily identifiable, which they gave to someone I know on WA and have asked to be circulated as widely as possible. Naturally they are extremely distressed and want the dog stopped before it kills again – I'm just finding out now if we can include a relative's number for people to contact with information, and will update when I have it.

If you have any information, please share so it can be passed on in the meantime.
