Thanks Karen. We looked for the lights, and saw this pink colour but didn't recognise it for what it was. Friends over in Finchley said they had a better view. We shall look again tonight (Saturday).

After reading Karen‘s post last night, I had a quick look online and various places seem to suggest that the camera can often see northern lights better than the human eye.

I read this too, Hugh.  There was some uber technical explanation that I didn't bother to read.  Certainly there have been some great photos.

There’ll possibly be a repeat tonight apparently. All depends if there are some good slar flares an they head in this direction.

I missed them Friday having already gone to bed plus didn't realise that would be happening. So last night stayed up but couldn't see anything and gave up about 1am..
