Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

We just wanted to recommend the guys who have just relaid our victorian path.  As you see from the before and after photo they have done a superb job.  They are Barry Gregory, Specialist Tiling Services 07973 747791 or 0208 444 8902 bgregoryspecialisttilingservices.co.uk

Oh that is gorgeous. Did the council pay 90% of the cost because it must have really improved the street as a whole?

that looks fabulous - did they do the block paving too?

No, the block paving was done by David O'Docherty 07830 119421, who is also excellent and I would highly recommend.  He works mostly by recommendation (we got his name from HoL) and I think it is booked for the next couple of months.

Karen, David has just done some paving for us also ( not block paving though) and we are thrilled with his work so can second this recommendation. He ended up moving over 100 bags of soil from our garden in order to lay the paving which was a feat in itself.

Interestingly if we had not been trying to restore it back to the original we probably wouldn't have gone for this pattern, it is quite involved!  The original pathway was in such poor condition that every time it rained we lost more tiles and water was beginning to seep into our basement. Its been a labour of love to try and restore this victorian house to what was there originally as and when we can afford, eighteen years and still heaps to do!

It looks lovely! I notice you've also had brick paving to the side - I'm curious, did you put this over the concrete that was previously there or did you dig the concrete up? Our garden looks similar at the moment and we're wondering what to do! Thanks, Kate

We weren't sure what to do with the concrete, it was also quite badly broken in places and looked an eyesore and we thought it would look even worse once the path was redone and take the edge off it.  Our builder, David O'Docherty, broke all the concrete up and relaid a base before putting the brick paving down (the bricks were left from work we did in the garden a few years ago).

Thanks for the info, I imagine ours will also have to be broken as it looks awful!

We have a similar issue with our front too, thanks Karen, it looks great. Out of interest, how much of the path is new, and how much original?

The whole path is new.  We did initially wonder whether we could salvage any of it but as you can see it was in a pretty horrendous state and it would have looked very patchy if we had just tried to replace the broken bits.

Looks very nice Karen. Could nothing have been done about the cement bit by the doorstep ?

It a nice piece of stone so we wanted to keep it, it will scrub up when we finish off.  It covers the coal hole so would have been expensive to replace.
