Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

New Polish Grocer Opening Tomorrow.......and it's Going to be Turkish

Arista Food store on the site of Fairline Green grocers is opening tomorrow. In a pre-opening twist, I noticed that the many nationalities of food proclaimed on the temporary sign and reduced to Greek and Polish. However, chatting to one of the staff embers today, I was told that everything has changed and it's now going to be a Turkish grocer and the name will be changing too......so I was told.

It is going to be enormous   I heard English, French and German being spoken nearby   Is anybody interested in the new German version of Saqi's Turkish Cookery   original price £25, now £10

Just had a quick visit - had to be quick with two bored kids in tow-but its very clean, well-stocked and the staff seem very nice. Lots of people looking around. Mainly Turkish (and Greek) and some Polish. As I said not much time to look closely at the range as the smalls quickly lose interest when I explain I'm not buying cookies or chocolate spread.

Oh you lucky lucky people, another Turkish green grocers.

Tee hee

I much prefer the coffee shops.
well, our Turkish green grocers over here on Tottenham high road have far better produce than Tesco and Sainsbury's. So hopefully you'll all be lucky, too.
Went in yesterday. Nice clean shop, very pleasant staff and some good picked veg that I had with cold beef.

Great, Pav, lots of new Turkish openings this week. Place is thriving. Glad you're such a fan of both Astra and Atra already. I have to say I've found Arista a bit of a let down but I'm sure it'll be great once they rename it Ankara or Ararat or Atalya or Adapazari or Aydin or Antakya or Aksehir or Atakent next week.

I would like to know where Atalya is?   perhaps somewhere between Alanya and Antalya?  SM

Alanis should be opening soon but all they sell are jagged little pills.

Is an apple still not an apple whether the owner and the staff are Turkish, Polish, Romanian? If it changes its name to one of the suggestions on your list OAE i am sure the oranges will still taste the same. I am going to go down later and check if the have Seville oranges as i have not been able to find them anywhere other than Stroud Green Rd. We used to get them everywhere for a short period of time because Cypriot women make jars of traditional spoon sweets with the rind. The fruit itself is too bitter to eat hence why it probably doesn't have a huge market. If anyone sees the elusive Seville orange please let me know.

Emina, if you have no luck with Seville oranges on the Harringay stretch of Green Lanes, then may I suggest you make the trip down to Newington Green.  Even the FT agrees that the fruit & veg shop there (just down from the Green, almost on the corner of Beresford Road), is one of the best in London.  They are called something original like Newington Greens (I always forget exactly) and also have a branch opposite Wholefoods (or Wholepaycheck as they say in the US) on Stoke Newington Church St and they are pretty much always open.

And they are Turkish-owned
