Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Hi Everyone

Here is a photo showing the new bicycle racks that are starting to be installed as part of the Green Lanes project. The contractor is currently installing the racks in the side roads followed by Green Lanes after Christmas.

Thanks Emine - the new ones being installed outside the Post Office.

They look a lot better dont they !! - Thanks to Adam Coffman, Ian Sygrave and Rob Tao for their involvement in making sure the design we chose was right

I just saw these, not impressed at all. They are flimsy and not fit for the purpose of locking a bike to. Have any cyclists actually been consulted? We should have had Sheffield stands like everywhere else in London. I predict they will also need to be replaced.

What a disgusting waste of public money.

Not sure how better they are frankly!! Who on earth chose the design?? Why can't we have Sheffield stands rather than 'designed' ones? This is total garbage.

Here's an idea - if there is a visibility issue, what if we could get the Turnpike Lane Art Group to add some embellishments to help them stand out? That would give us something serviceable and unique.

Knitted covers?

That's along the right lines! Let the ideas pour forth!

I don't think it will look nice after the weather and smog has got to it!
I've seen stuff knitted from plastic strips so go for it!
I love that :)

I love that idea Hugh. I think the main problem with the original ones was that they had sharp edges and were a problem for people using walking sticks. These ones are really nice and a little tasteful application of paint a la TAG would really make them amazing.

And can you confirm that the new stands are being supplied and installed at no additional cost to the tax payer ?
