Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Nasty little streamlet

Anyone know what's with the unpleasant little stream which has been oozing out of a grille at the bottom of the eastbound Harringay Green Lanes ramp for, what, a year now? It runs across the path and forms a perpetual puddle in the gutter so that there's always a chance of getting spattered by traffic, whatever the weather. I notice that it's become so established that it's formed its own ecology and is now a mossy green. I've never seen anyone looking like they were doing anything about it, which is a shame, because it's unsightly and a nuisance.

That's a recipe for decisive action. I agree it doesn't seem to be foul water, but it's definitely a nuisance. And as the nuisance is on the pavement, isn't that the council's gig?

Thanks for pointing this out. Green Lanes is a Haringey Road (if the lines are yellow its Haringey,  if they are red its TfL) so I'll start by asking Highways to take a look. I sense this is going to be one of those problems where everyone says its someone else's responsibility so it may take some time!!

Yes, thanks. It's a nuisance and when it rains, it collects in the road and I've often been splashed wallking by there. No point in spending millions doing up the streets if that stream is left to flow!

Well! Was this just amazing coincidence or an astonishingly prompt attempt to resolve an issue raised on HO and picked up by a councillor? Was amazed to find workmen fossiicking away at this problem from an early hour this morning. And still there eight hours later. Heroic in this heat. They said they couldn't work out if it was a burst water main or a burble burble. I didn't catch it, but he was very hot and tired and I didn't want to pester him.

Whatever, great to see something being done, though it sounds as though it might still take a while.

Yep, very impressive. It must be the prompt action of the councillor. I wish this had been brought to notice before but I just assumed that it was a known problem so never said anything. Just goes to show. They were still there about 7.15pm when I went past working on the problem.

Thanks for bringing this issue into the public domain so hopefully now it will be fixed and no more unwanted showers under the Harringay bridge!

Oh dear. Fantastic to see this repaired. But I do hope it had nothing to do with the mains burst up Green Lanes. Wouldn't want to indirectly responsible for that big hole. Also, I wonder if there's any chance of getting the drain unblocked so the dratted water can actually get away. Otherwise only half a job. Carping I know.

Not really carping... in this weather stagnant water is smelly and can be a source of germs I expect!
