Making Home: new exhibition at Karamel Wood Green traces the heritage of Ugandan Asians

While it's always worth making the trip to Karamel in Coburg Road, Wood Green, for lunch, there is an even better reason for making it a destination of choice this month as they host a fascinating exhibition.

Charting the experiences and heritage of Ugandan Asians in the UK it has been put together for the 40th anniversary of the expulsion of the Asian population in Uganda by Idi Amin and their arrival in Britain with virtually nothing.

Originally at the Royal Geographical Society, Making Home uses photographs, text, original artworks and multi-media to chart how Indian peoples came to Africa, their lives before their expulsion and their not always easy settlement in the UK, as well as their feelings, 40 years on, about this traumatic upheaval from all that they had known into exile.

Make some time to go. It's free entry (but well worth stopping for lunch).

Open for viewing until 25th October

There is a lot of local interest in the exhibition too. Several people who settled in the Green Lanes and West Green Rd area are featured.

Totally agree - a really interesting exhibition in a great venue that works really hard for the local community.

Why not pop in tomorrow evening and enjoy some great music as well - Chris Helme, ex Seahorses is the main event, and as always it's completely free.
