Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

by one Rowan Moore.  He asks a few tricky questions re the blinkers worn by The Kabal, but on the whole seems to like the idea of most of Tottenham being turned into buy-to-leave towers.  Do chip in, people.  But not more absentees who think its a rat-hole, that's not helpful, they have already got a few dozen comments in.

The timing of this piece is probably the result of press releases re the £360 per head jolly this coming Thursday, as mentioned by Clive and others

Spin.

The Observer's architecture critic, so not paid to promote the NuTruth.  He could have picked a wider group to interview...

"It could set a model for regeneration for the next generation: of the people, by the people, for the people. I think that Kober and Strickland would agree. But if so then Ward’s Corner, the Spurs stadium and High Road West are not the best ways of starting as you mean to go on."

Quite!

My interpretation is that the article raises serious questions about the type of 'regeneration' taking place and labels it as misguided and really enquires whether it will achieve the best outcomes for local people and for the local architecture and urban setting. He questions whether Spursland type stadia achieve real benefits in town centre settings.

I was quite pleased that a major Sunday newspaper carried this counter-Koberite piece and found it quite critical of what is taking place in Tottenham and it actually puts the local polticians in a difficult place. Of course it isn't overly agressive either.
