Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

A really big congratulations are due to ladder resident Ian Telfer who along with his band OysterBand and singer June Tabor picked up THREE awards at this week's BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards. They won Best Group, Best Album and Best Traditional Track, whilst June Tabor also won the title Folk Singer of the Year. I ran into Ian's very proud wife as they arrived home the following day!

You can watch the awards on iplayer for a few more days. OysterBand perform at 2.08.

Looking forward to a listen to their album Ragged Kingdom if this clip is anything to go by.

Well done Ian!

Wow! I love the Oysterband. I never knew one of them was a Ladder resident. Well done to all of them. The album looks like its going to be a classic. Incidentally, June Tabor used to be a Haringey librarian, working at Muswell Hill, I think. She has the best folk voice ever.

Congratulations indeed. Thanks for posting this Gillian.

Thank you kindly.  I'm the one on the fiddle, by the way. (So to speak.) A real pleasure to work with June, she really is the finest singer in the folk world. We made an album together in 1990 called "Freedom & Rain", but it seems to have taken 21 years to get the follow-up ("Ragged Kingdom") recorded.

Just to let you know Oysterband and June Tabor are playing the Union Chapel in Islington on Thursday 19 April, and would be very happy to have some local support!

cheers

Ian

Congratulations indeed, it's good to know that this music is alive and well and living nearby. Thanks also for the link.  When I clicked on it, I noticed that the first group up (Martin Simpson et al) included Will Pound on the harmonica.  Only last Friday Will and his duo partner Dan Walsh (see: http://www.walshandpound.co.uk/about) played downstairs at the Kings Head in Crouch End. Some HoLers may remember that Will and his wife Nicky played at our garden party last June.  They can be found as Haddo: http://www.haddofolk.com/about.html.  I didn’t know Oysterband before but the Union Chapel is not far to go.  Let's do it.
