These traders are good. They really seem to know how to play the politics game. No wonder they have such influence with the Council. Impressed.
Didn't know Ken spoke Turkish?

and if anyone wants to go and have a word about traffic, bridges etc with him, he'll be holding a public meeting later in the day.  The event is being held from 7.15pm until 8.30pm (Doors from 7pm) at the Cypriot Centre, Earlham Grove, London, N22 5HJ. You need to register on the website Ken4London if you want to go.

I cant be there for the walk and talk nor the meeting, but I hope some people raise the issue of the betting shops- he will see for himself very easily what is happening.

Dinesh Patel's opticians closes this Sat after over 40 years so another small business gone (no doubt hurt by Specs Savers) So there will be another shop that could be turned into yet another betting shop, jeweller's or kebab place.

Hi Liz the link is not working. I've had a look but not sure which site you are on about

Is it this one

Try it now. There was a w missing from the www.

Should work now.

If not try http://www.kenlivingstone.com/haringey

I don't - or Greek, Russian, Farsi or Polish - and yet somehow I still manage to benefit from the mulitplicity of fantatastic fruit, veg, and interesting foods from different cultures you can get on Green Lanes. Thank goodness we aren't just stuck with the bland offerings of yet another Tesco and a choice of 3 betting shops.

Pretty sure they will manage to speak to him in English anyway

Hopefully they were more polite to Ken than they are to regular punters. I.e. not be on the phone or talking over his shoulder to the next person in line, who speaks whatever language they're speaking. And hopefully he didn't get his change thrown at him. Oh wait, he's a man, so he was probably treated ok. Silly me.

I hope he'll decide to try and cross Green Lanes at the traffic lights i.e. endless minutes to wait at lights a couple of seconds to cross -not to mention times when gridlock doesn't let you across the road since cars/buses blocking. He might mention to traders some of us would do more shopping in Green Lanes if the traffic were reduced by about 80% - their objections to any parking restrictions seem to be based on the idea that it's impossible to buy fruit and veg on foot. I live just off Green lanes but shop elsewhere when possible. Also I'm not keen on food out on the pavement in car fumes 24/7

Judy

The only current way to reduce traffic (and believe, the traders would also love to see traffic reduced) is by diverting through traffic along Wightman Rd. Nobody who lives here could want that.
