I dont want to fit into others' worlds if they are governed by Sharia - as apparently 40% of UK Muslims would prefer.

Pam, is there any religion which does not require adherents to accept and try to follow its holy books/ rules / teachings/ ancient wisdoms /prescribed practices?

Many years ago I heard about a heated meeting of Islington Lefties where a respected councillor finally secured agreement to a course of action, with a quotation from Vladimir Lenin which was clearly relevant to the problem they faced. 

Later in the pub someone asked him where it came from. He smiled and said: "I made it up."

Pay sufficient obeisance to the FSM and you're sorted for this life and all the next ones. 

I keep being referred to that Sacco cartoon, but really - madness.

I'm not convinced by the reference to Spartacus. Reading Wikipedia it seems even the person who coined the phrase has quashed that possibility. In any event, surely JFK in Berlin is a more likely inspiration? #JFK

The Je suis Charlie affair confirms two wrongs don't make a right. On the one hand, a bunch of murdering bigots and on the other, a group provocative cartoonists who have become martyrs after misjudging the reaction.

If they spent more time satirising Boris, May and the Met they would be alive today.   (Actually, I am not sure about that - the Minister of Mordor and Slippery Boris look capable of misdeeds.)

The bread and butter of Charlie Hebdo is satirising French politicians and politics. Religious satire is the stuff that gets the headlines outside of France but is a tiny part of their regular content.

From what I have seen it appears to be more satirising religion more than French Politicians.  Read this, it is an interesting perspective on it.   I guess a key issue is Charlie Hebdo having a lack of respect for what others value, no matter how cranky and mediaeval it is.

Well, when I read it when I'm over there it certainly carries political scandal cover to cover mostly. I have my own view on whether or not it should have printed the images it did, but most press reports seem to suggest all it does is print cartoons to annoy Muslims when it mainly prints stuff to annoy French politicians.

Some Charlie cartoons you may have missed.

They would have a pop at anything, but usually from a left /anarchist position.
