Many cyclists and runners use a clever app called Strava where you can time yourself on 'segments' and compare your times to what your friends have done.
A runner on Strava has set up a segment which encompasses all 19 Ladder Roads and Turnpike Lane

The distance is 9.3km and the record is 45mins

Gotta say I'm not a big fan of Strava in cities. It encourages the idea that cycling is primarily a sport/hobby, and therefore that it has less priority on the roads than the needs of real transport. What we really need to improve cyclists' safety is to recognise cycling primarily as an everyday method of transport rather than a game played by grownups in silly hats
I really don't see a place for racing on city streets even if all you are racing is yourself.

When I was training for the London Marathon a few years ago and househunting in the area at the same time, I did a run which was something like this one, although the way I did it made it exactly 10km (perhaps I did the bottom stretch of Endymion as well - I can't remember precisely). It put the thought in my mind that we could have a "run the ladder" 10km race, but it would involve closing all the ladder roads, Wightman Road and Green Lanes for a morning and would, therefore, cause traffic chaos!
The road closures or the race? I think it would be fab if we could find a way to do it with minimum disruption, but I would have no idea where to start.
both
they close Green Lanes for the food festival for the whole day
i reckon you could do this without closing Wightman or GL
+1 from me, a "run the ladder" would be great. I've become a bit of a fatty these days but used to run a bit, and have also wondered about a ladder run thing to help motivate getting back into shape.
Could the first one just be an unofficial thing on the footpaths as a way to get it started?
OK, I'll have a think about how we might get it going. I've got a few friends in running clubs who might know the best way of going about it.
Oooh, but Ant, it misses out a road!!! My OCD couldn't cope with that! But yes, I agree that they are good start/finish points.
Heh, its your run i'm sure we could find a route, what about this one, which uses Fairland Park instead of Ducketts Common and is still 10km?
(Google maps has a tool to draw the lines and tell you how far it is, see here):
Ha ha, OK, the "Harringay Hurtle" it is!
We can turn it into a Steeple Chase if the permanent barriers in the Gardens are implemented soon enough
