Thanks for these. Looks like a beautiful space!
It is lovely- evident quality of original design & workmanship with wonderful proportions in even the most utilitarian features. Sadly the Council chamber was all curtained up for the show so no pics to be had there.
For the council chamber and more, try this from a few years back - and my linked set of Flickr pics - or see below:
there are some nice pics on the Hornsey arts website also here. http://www.hthartscentre.co.uk/hire/
Wow, and your pics are excellent Hugh! perhaps you should offer them to HTHarts!
Thanks, but they're just snaps. I tried to get back in about a year or so back to take some high quality pics, but the Council wouldn't allow it. I'm hoping to get back in at some point.
It seems to me the Crouch End Town Hall is massively underused as an occasional TV set and Arts event location. All it does is one Thespian event per week with the occasion set rental for filming. It must work out at less than 10% occupancy.
It could be used for youth club events which are lacking in this area. It could make a really good conference and big meeting location as well as permanent or temporary offices which could be incorporated into an overall plan to fund Art and Community events.
That said, it cannot be easy to get the momentum going to improve the usage of the Town Hall even if is a location and building with great potential.
The council started secret negotiations with a private school to take the entire campus off their hands for £1/year in 2011 but still no agreement or lease details have been published - all the details are held in secret.
Meanwhile the news that they'd secretly granted a lease to a three-person startup leaked in November 2014 but they're again keeping the details to themselves so nobody is sure what has happened or why they imposed this without any reference to locals.
There's a Facebook group for those interested in Hornsey Town Hall - we're all very pleased that finally the place is open and support the startup mightily. I'm sure everyone there would be very grateful for any of your photos, impressions, thoughts etc. https://www.facebook.com/groups/HornseyTownHall
