Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Anyone know what has happened? Both ends of the road have been taped off as have the entrances from Harringay Passage and there are police everywhere. Local reseints are having to sign out when they leave and sign in when they return.

There is a yellow tent half way up on the south side in a front yard, doesn't bode well?
There's nothing on the internet yet but sounds serious.
Sadly, there was a sexual assault in Pemberton. As far as I'm aware, by good grace, there are no serious physical injuries.
Hugh,
I live on Pemberton, inside the zone they're investigating, and they are giving us very little information. The only thing the officers would tell me was that there HAD been a serious injury to an individual. Please wait for the official Police statement. This isn't the sort of thing to bandy the usual idle conjecture around about.

Thanks
Thanks for that update Gareth. Certainly what I've learnt of the scale and nature of the investigation suggests something quite serious. The information I was given came from Cllr. Nilgun Canver who called me specifically so I had info to give should people ask. She said it came from the police. So, it's not, as you suggest, idle conjecture. (I never publish idle conjecture without clearly labelling it as such).

If the information is incorrect I will check with Cllr Canver as to why.
Gareth

You're absolutely right. One should wait for an official police statement.
Does that mean you feel that information from a council cabinet member with responsibility for safer neighbourhoods who says her information came from the police should not be trusted?

What I posted, I posted in good faith since it came from an authoritative source.

Where I have information from a quality source, I will continue to post it as part of the service I intend this website provides.

Sometimes it may prove to be inaccurate as it does from even the best quality news sources. But I try, like the best news sources, to only publish information from quality sources to minimise this.
i was bit shocked when I left this morning to find it all cornered off just opposite my house when things seemed quiet when I got in about 11pm

well not to follow protocol, and wait for official news, i have been told by a trader round the corner someone was raped and assualted in the early hours, that was a few hours after a regular customer of his had come in saying someone had just threatened to stab him round the corner, and he then called the police for the lad-thats approx 50yards from the seroius assualt several hours later
what is going on round here-Im not saying this for idle gossip but to make sure women particularly dont walk home on their own, something I know my friends do very late at night-supposedly this person was walking up the main street before being dragged into the alleyway
Could I suggest then, that if you are posting information from a quality source that you credit where this information came from at the time of posting?
This is vitally important, particularly when there is a forensics tent in a garden a few doors from your home and police combing the street, as uncredited information is only as useful as idle conjecture, which only fuels rumour and fear.
For Matt (whose post has been shifted since I began this reply: please see this page
Thanks Gareth, that is a good point and one that will be taken on board for future reference. We do now know the source of the information is a reliable one and should any more info be handed to us we will pass it on for the benefit of all.

Let us remain focused please on the issue at hand which is the serious assault and rape of a woman in our community. Please stay alert, look after each other and make sure you don't walk home alone until we know more.

For all of us this is a tremendous shock, as a woman I have always felt very safe around here. We must remain calm and vigilant and, for now, take no risks. I am certain the police are doing all they can.
Sure Gareth. I left Cllr Canver's since I hadn't thought that the information would need to be verified in that way since it hasn't been an issue before. However, it's good that you've raised this need now. I hope you feel reassured now you know its origin. For me, it's added further insight about what members will find helpful. We do our best Gareth; we do our best.
