Hi Natasha - this is a problem around a lot of schools and has been discussed on HOL before. My experience is that school staff may be reluctant to get involved for fear of upsetting parents. This is even though parents are effectively endangering children's lives. The school want the Borough to do more and the Borough want the school to do more. Sadly, some people think they are entitled to park on double yellow lines even though they are not entitled to. If you see what I mean. However I saw an interesting response to people's sense of entitlement at Gladesmore in N15. They put out these signs on the double yellow lines outside the school
The problem is that it is not down to the schools to enforce- and I suspect they feel they have enough to do without managing parents doing drop offs... That said, one member of staff on the footpath for 30 mins every morning, greeting children and parents, and moving cars on may not be a great hardship.
Deborah. What is the Edinburgh trial, I do not know about this... Have you got any info you can share?
Yes, it's very easy to sympathise with the schools point of view. At the primary schools I work at, there is always at least one, usually two, members of staff directly outside school at every drop-off and pick-up. This still does not effect people's behaviour. It leaves me speechless to be honest.
Eventually found it - the lady I spoke to was Dayra Rios - dayra.rios@Haringey.gov.uk - I also have a direct line telephone number for her if you want to message me
