Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Today (Sunday) was the first of four Wireless festivals/concerts in Finsbury Park. I'm surprised there are no posts about it. Did it affect you? Any feedback (or photos) is being collated by the Friends of Finsbury Park.

Who is this 'us' of which you speak? You refer to it as 'OUR' park, but there are plenty of local people who don't have a problem with the Wireless Festival taking place, myself included. You say 'great for the shops, not so good for us' but many shops around Finsbury Park are run by locals. Given the amount of pubs we've lost around here, surely it's something of a boon for them to have a weekend packed with people from outside the area, particularly as us local drinkers don't seem to be enough to sustain them on our own?

I live further away from the park than I used to when I was on Eade Road, but we all used to love a Finsbury Park event that we could enjoy for nothing. I appreciate that the noise may cause some distress if it is considered unwelcome, but not everyone finds it unwelcome. I wish I'd been close enough to hear the so-called kiddie music of Arrested Development and Grandmaster Flash yesterday!

The park is for everyone and this 'it must be stopped' perspective is not shared by us all.

Liz, I'm not one of the people advocating the ceasing of events in the park but I do think that there should be a better balance to meet the needs of those who use the park and live close to it. The noise is a minor issue for me, I'm more bothered by the sections of the the park that are made unavailable for periods of time that increase year on year. That's why I signed a petition to review the policy for park events, not to stop them, but to better manage them. I think it's important that everyone's perspective is included in whatever new policy is formulated, and that of course includes the perspectives of those who welcome live music events.

I realise that not everyone is suggesting a total stop to park events, I just think that there's a lot of encouragement (apart from a couple of posts) to the self-righteous outrage in this thread. This approach doesn't take into account any of the positives, or the opinions of the many people in the area who might feel differently, but don't come on here and express their opinion because it wouldn't have occurred to them that they might need to leap to the defence of a local event that they enjoyed.

I think having a destination park, big enough to hold events like this is a great thing, particularly for the future of the park, and it could be a lot worse - it's only a weekend (+ set up and takedown) and at least it's done and dusted before the school holidays start. If people are really that bothered by it, they might try using one of the other local parks to walk their dog; drinking in a different pub and making some kind of allowance for the disruption to their routine.

Absolutely agree liz.

Personally, as I've already mentioned, we're not particularly mobile here, neither walking nor driving so we can't go far from home.

Yes we'll give you a fart, even a bum, or believe it or not even a shit or two. There are probably a couple of words we'd rankle at, but we're more concerned about tone, aggressive behaviour, rudeness and the like.

I was there also over Sat and Sun doing photography on the stages.  All in all it was a pretty good weekend, there seemed to be no trouble apart from the break-in on Friday, but like tigha said, this is not the fault of the organisers, the same thing happens at plenty of festivals around the UK.

I suggest you make your views known to the council (parks@haringey.gov.uk and join the Friends of Finsbury Park who continue to campaign against the council's large events policy.

So we live on Lothair Rd South. Haringey and LiveNation promised parking restrictions. Sadly they never materialised so this is how it has ended up.

Not good. Complain to Haringey Council so they do something next time. There WILL be a next time.

Am so tired of this now - incessant bassline so loud I had to stop watching tv as had to turn the volume up so much it was giving me a headache :-/ Looking through other posts from earlier, I also saw people scaling the fence alongside Seven Sisters Road with security staff overwhelmed.

Am very glad that I live at the Manor House end of the park, as many friends who live near to Finsbury Park tube have said it's been a sea of beer cans, plastic glasses and vomit :-(

well, got to say, i'm sat in my garden with a cup of tea enjoying the music, thanks Wireless!
