Local favourite Hots Nuts is soon to open its second branch on Green Lanes. This brings the chain's north London portfolio to seven outlets in total.
The new branch is at 443 Green Lanes (once the home of Mangal Restaurant), just south of Duckett Road.

Indeedy - that's why we have it on our Harringay's Favourite Haunts Foursquare list. Does this mean we have to add it twice? Crikey.
Now I really do love hot nuts as much as the next person but I have had a niggling issue with them following my last few visits. I have come away feeling that I have paid more than I expected on my visit and a bit confused! So today I thought I would pay attention a bit more during to pay about my visit.
I ordered 100g of 2 products at £1 per 100g and 100g of a product at £1.50 per 100g. So I expected to pay about £3.50. When the lady measured the items out she asked is 120g ok, I couldn't see the scales that she was using to check the weights she measured out. I said yes to the first two items but for the third item I said no and reiterated that I wanted 100g.
When she added it all up she said that it totalled to £4.75. This was more than I expected and asked her to total again. She then said it came to £4.40. I then said are you sure and she weighed out the purchases infront of me. This time I saw that the £1.50 item actually weighed 140g and she charged me for this weight whereas she initially told me it weighed 120g. My impression was that she was a little sheepish when I said that she told me that item was 120g.
I'm posting this with a sense of disappointment because I do love hot nuts but can't help feeling that now on more than one occasion I have been charged more than I ordered. As it has been more that one occasion I wanted to post on here to see if anyone else has had the same experience? Maybe I have just had bad luck.
I know I am querying less than £1 and that they don't have a big profit margin but I would prefer that they put their prices up by £1 rather than weighing out more than I asked for and totalling it wrong.
Phil, would you enlighten us as to how you make fresh nut butters? Or would you point us to a good website, which introduces the idea? Thanks!
How interesting and so simple! Thank you.
I take the principles are the same for other nuts, depending on how much oil it produces. I may try that...
Ummm.... I can't believe I get to link to this again: The Grocer Song.
We frequent there on a weekly basis because we love our nuts on our breakfast, and we have noticed that one of the girls there sells more in a pushy style than before. When you asks for, say, 200g of something, she puts 250g or more and see if you say anything. Also, again, if you asks for 200g of something, she says is 300g ok. I know they tend to ask you to spend 500g for super savers, which is sort of fair enough as the small amount of such does not come up to a good sum for them. But I was rather put off by this girl's recent customer service. Most recently (a few days ago), I saw her at the one in front of the Arena, and she was no longer treating me that way, so I figured she was cautioned or told off by customer in some ways...
