Hornsey Rail Depot proposals 'put on hold' (Heartlands)

PROPOSALS to build a major rail depot in Hornsey have been put on hold after the Government refused to give them the green light.
The site, off Hampden Road, was earmarked not only because it was large enough to accommodate the structure, rumoured to be 250 metres long and 13 metres high, but because the land is already owned by Network Rail.
It means the company has permitted development rights and has the option to by-pass normal Haringey Council planning procedures, if necessary.
But local Government secretary John Denham MP has blocked the plans following fierce opposition from Haringey councillors.

PS From Site Admin - there are two planned local rail depot developments. One is a train washing depot behind Hampden Road. The other is a larger train depot by Heartlands, opposite New River Village. This post actually applies to the latter.

I'm just so cynical about this.
If they lose control of the council it will be over Harringay and St Ann's so now they're able to pull strings in central government to please the nimbys of N8.

Hampden road is not in Hornsey it is part of Harringays ladder.
It is however postcoded N8. What do you mean by the 'nimbys of N8' ?

Well they were doing a lot of work at the top of Hampden Rd (it's the only ladder road that crosses Wightman) next to the steps up to the railway station this year. i.e. traffic from this site will be ladder traffic. If Thameslink give 100K to North Harringay school do you think Labour would drop their opposition? It's a thought.

You'd have thought they might have done something to reinstate the 'demand' proviso re: bookies by now wouldn't you, or done something about oversupply?
Interesting to see that regarding the Great Ormond Street Hospital department at St. Ann's Hospital, that whereas there were only 4 doctors/consultants when Baby P was sent home with a broken back, now there are 9! Must admit I'm very pleased to hear that this is the current position.
