HGVs - Enforcement of the weight limit on Wightman and ladder roads
I have again asked for some enforcement action by the council against HGVs using Wightman Road and the ladder roads.
I am pleased to say that I have just had an email from the Parking Infrastructure Manager to say that they will be carrying out some enforcement this week between 7am and 8.30am.
Lets hope it starts to send a message to the companies that they lorries belong to.

Many thanks Karen. Very pleasing that we can email you details of these large lorries too - I saw one the other day, but didn't write down its details - needless to say, it was carrying several pieces of earth moving equipment and so would definitely have been above the 7.5 tonne limit!
Meanwhile it would be great to know whether signs are being put in place. I'd hate for all of this good work to go down the drain because the council hadn't given drivers enough notice of the weight limits on down streets like Burgoyne.

Someone has removed and tried to hide this sign, which should tell drivers coming from Turnpike Lane that they can't turn left into Wightman Rd.

And I wonder who has the motivation to pull these signs down? Will Jewsons / the other lorry companies be blaming pesky teens, I wonder?

thankyou Karen for listening and acting on this issue.
The enforcement team might get a better picture of the problem by pitching up after 9am; big Jewsons lorries passed my house on Cavendish road at the following times.
7th March at 9:36 (number plate RA57 HNG)
7th March at 9:56 (number plate RA57 HNF)
And more worrying, this truck drove up the road 4 mins after South Harringay school closing...
6th March at 15:34 (number plate: RA57 HNF)
This is a tiny sample of the vehicles I have the time and motivation to log.
I'm not even trying here. I'm not standing by the road or peering out from behind my curtains. I am simply minding my own business, washing the dishes or something else equally mundane, and hear them coming with 10 - 20 sec warning. I have plenty of time to amble to my lounge and then watch the trucks loom by.

Hi Karen - Can we confirm what the situation is with Jewson lorries ? Are they allowed to drive up Cavendish ? They claim as they are using it for access to their store on Wightman then they are n't breaking the law ? Is this correct ?
What route are they supposed to take ?
If it is illegal it certainly would n't be difficult to catch several Jewson lorries a day using Cavendish & Burgoyne.

Tim, see this thread for the relevant Council Ordinance, and discussion of where Jewsons can and can't go. The Council seems to have backtracked from this subsequently by relying on a nonsense interpretation of the Ordinance.

Absolutely agree with Malcolm B - Jewsons don't need to go up Cavendish to access their yard. It beggars belief that they think they can use the ladder streets when they're not delivering anything to them (it's bad enough they use Wightman, but that's because they are based there and have no choice but to go to/from their site by going along Wightman Road).
I really think something has to be done about this before buildings are seriously damaged by foundations that are undermined by vibrations coming up the house every time a heavily laden lorry hits a sped hump, or a child is hurt because a driver was speeding downhill with a heavy load and found it hard to stop.
Karen - are you able to check up on the signage issue for us and also what the story is with the council's interpretation of the Ordinance (which sounds completely bonkers to me)?

Here are 2 clips from Cavendish Road in the last couple of weeks or so.
1) 22nd February - Jewson truck with a serial offender of a driver (some better than others) giving it gas between speed bumps. Whilst maybe not breaking the speed limit, at that weight the house doth shake. He came up again a bit later with a heavier load at the same speed and with the same boy racer attitude. Compare it to the speed of the van behind and make your own judgements.
2) 8th March - Double Dutch lorry (2 trailers). WELL over the weight restriction, and it had to do a 5 point turn just to get out of the road, turning left onto Wightman Road.
I'll more than happily set up a camera whilst working from home and get a day or two activity.

Happy to host a temp camera on my upstairs window sill if this also helps, perhaps with some siesmic 'shake-ometer' type equipment to see what the vibrational impact of teh hump just up from me is....
