Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

I have again asked for some enforcement action by the council against HGVs using Wightman Road and the ladder roads.

I am pleased to say that I have just had an email from the Parking Infrastructure Manager to say that they will be carrying out some enforcement this week between 7am and 8.30am.

Lets hope it starts to send a message to the companies that they lorries belong to.

The local SNT informed ward panel members of this little game about 4 years ago (passing this hot potato backwards & fwds betw police & council) with no one taking responsibility. And so it continues ....

Excellent thank you Karen!

Hi,

I am still keen to have another meeting following on from the one we had months ago.

I have been away a lot with work but am home more often now.

If there is still an interest I am keen to organise something with a little help.

Daniel.

Hello,

Jewson HGV has been coming up Mattison for the last few weeks, empty, with no load. Does any one know who I can report the driver to as it is the same driver.

Here's a copy of a [long] post by 'tim harris' on April 5 2013, which explains why Jewsons HGVs are allowed to use any ladder road and Wightman Road:

So I think most people know this, but the council confirmed to me that Jewsons are allowed to use any Ladder road to get to their site and any ladder road out, though they have agreed with them that Burgoyne is the preferable route out.  See email from council below.

Hi Mr Harris,
Sorry for the incorrect info, I should have said this is the outward route that was agreed. To gain access to the site they could legally use any road except entering from Endymion Road as they are not permitted to cross the week bridge on Wightman Road

I hope this clarify the situation, once again apology's for the mistake.

kind regards

Hi Chris
The route in and out cannot be via Burgoyne Road as this is a one way Road?

Dear Mr Harris

Thank you for your enquiry.

I would like to confirm that the weight limit of 7.5t is to prevent vehicles travelling through this area. However it should be noted that vehicles larger than 7.5 tonnes travelling to and from addresses, including residential one would be able to claim use of the access provision.  Given that Jewsons depot is within this area the access provision applies, although we have agreed with them that the most specific convenient route to be taken in and out of the area is via Burgoyne Rd.

I trust this clarifies how this weight limit restriction operates in this area, however should you require any further information please do not hesitate to contact me.

Kind regards

I think this has been set out in an earlier thread, but this really depends on how you interpret the order allowing access only to the ladder roads.

What interests me more these days is how those big vehicles are going to find turning into Green Lanes when the road narrowing at the exit of Burgoyne is complete.

Tim Harris is WRONG. The law is very clear. They are not allowed. Get the registration number, note the times of the "visits" and call the Police. I would normally recommend calling Jewson but they are not wanting to listen. If they obeyed the law it would mean that the only point of entrance and exit to their yard would be from the Wightman/Turnpike junction which I bet puts a hole in their profit.

Very happy to be WRONG as this would stop them driving up Cavendish EVERY morning !

As you can see that is the response I got from the Haringey council.  If this is illegal how can we challenge the council  ?

I didn't think 7.5t lorries could use the Wightman / Turnpike entrance either or am I misunderstanding ?

They come up Cavendish all day long.  I wouldn't so much if they went slowly, and tailored their speed to the weight of the lorry.  I've also seen a lot more heavy traffic since the work on Burgoyne started.  Lots of tipper trucks, which I assume are related to the works.

Sorry Tim, I got it wrong I meant the person you were speaking to at the council obviously :)

7.5t lorries can use Wightman for ACCESS. As the Jewson yard is on Wightman, they can use it. In fact it is the ONLY legal way they have of getting to their yard. This obviously puts a complete hole in their business model as it probably adds a mile onto the average delivery.

They did have a HoL account last year and were trying to say they had permission etc, etc but when it became obvious they didn't they deleted the account taking all their posts with them. A shame they would have been quite useful in a court case.

Chris Roberts-Wray does not have any kind of rights whatsoever to grant permission to use YOUR road to Jewson. He is trying it on. Get times of visits and the registration details.

You could always try using social media to raise the issue. I had some success last year when I contacted Jewson via facebook. Unfortunately this connection came to nought after others HoL did they wanted the Burgoyne route to continue. Mainly so their roads didn't suffer the same loads as ours does.

On this occasion I have to differ.  The whole of the Ladder - which includes Wightman Road but not Green Lanes for the purpose of the 7.5 T restrictions - is restricted to 20 mph and 7.5 T except for access.  In the case of Jewson lorries there are two relevant issues.  Firstly, unladen they may be less than 7.5 T.  Secondly, they should use the shortest route out of the 7.5 T restricted zone, excluding the railway bridge which has no exemptions.  The shortest route to Green Lanes is Burgoyne - when it's open.
