Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

A gambling shop on Green Lanes (by Stamp) is applying to extend its closing time from 11pm until 2am seven days a week. This was the same shop that previously openly displayed "free food" to lure in customers, in contravention of regulations.

This could be really bad news for us if and when other betting shops along GL follow suit. They're already a scourge on our high street and provide little if any social value.

If you have 5 minutes to spare, you can object here (deadline Tuesday):
https://publicregister.haringey.gov.uk/pr/s/planning-application/a0...

Valid planning objections include, for example:

Principle - If you feel that the very nature of the proposal is inappropriate for example that the use of land/property should not change.
and
Disturbance - There would be unacceptable intrusion in the form of noise nuisance, general disturbance, odour, etc.

Or you can check other comments to see what they say!

The comments Amit has linked to show that there is some depth of feeling about the application but there is little in them of actual planning substance.

Far more convincing are the objections on this page.

Haringey's own Health in All Policies team has submitted a well argued case based on Haringey's own, and wider policies, and on flaws in the applicant's supporting documents.

Harringay's Ladder Community Safety Partnership has also submitted an objection based on policy and three other headings - Loss of Amenity, Clustering and Crime and Disorder.

In theory the consultation closed on 19th, but objections submitted now will still be considered.

I have submitted the following

I object to this application. The policies and arguments underlying my objection are set out clearly in the objections submitted by Haringey's Health in All Policies group and by LCSP. Extended hours and the change of use would reduce the amenity of the area for local residents late at night, would accentuate the clustering of betting/gambling/gaming outlets in a designated shopping area, and have a high probability of increasing crime and disorder.

Thanks, I've submitted something similar.

Permission has been refused - good work!

Good news! You'll recall that a while back one of the betting shops put in an application to extend their licencing hours to 2am, 7 nights a week. That's now been refused. Thank you to everyone who objected. https://londonboroughofharingey.my.site.com/pr/s/planning-applicati...

I'm sure the firm will appeal so it will be important for Councillors and the council to stand firm on this, and for everyone to keep the pressure on.

I’d say well done to you, Amit. 82 objections is a startling number and three-quarters of them came after you added this post. I’m guessing that’s no coincidence.

Great news.  Thank you for publicising the application Amit.
