Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Help a Haringey Park get funding from the Mayor - Vote for Lordship Rec

Londoners have been asked to select 10 parks to receive improvement grants of up to £400,000 each.

Mayor Boris Johnson has launched a public vote to select 10 parks from a shortlist of 47. The winners will be made "cleaner, safer and greener".
In addition to the public vote, one park will be given a £2m improvement grant, to be chosen by the mayor. Mr Johnson is due to outline his environmental plans for the city in a speech to the Environment Agency later. The Priority Parks scheme was funded after the mayor scrapped his official newsletter The Londoner earlier this year.
Suggested park improvements include better footpaths, more lighting, new playgrounds, improved cycle routes and plots for growing fruit and vegetables.
More here from the BBC

The only park in Haringey is Lordship Rec where they plan
* The River Moselle, now in a concrete pipe, would be restored to an open river;
* New city farm, play area and café;
* Wildflower meadows;
* Restore the Park's historic features.

I'm not sure that Lordship Rec really needs an open river and a wildflower meadow. Most of the Rec is given over to football pitches and a BMX track, which are extensively used. There is a wildflower meadow and a more traditional gardens type park across the road in Downhills Park.
Maybe, but I like the idea of a city farm and the restoration of the Parks historic features though.
Can't hurt to get some cash from the Mayor.

Perhaps I should add, like those adverts on the BBC, other parks are available to vote for :D
Out of interest, do you know what historic features there were?
Not off the top of my head but this page details plans that were unveiled in June dependent on external funding. Steve from Berlin, knows a bit about Lordship rec as well

A quote I unearthed from A N Wilson and posted elsewhere says

"Lordship Lane rec, dubbed by Wilson 'a fantasy of Socialist order', reflects both the vision of pre war Socialists under Herbert Morrison (Mandelson's grandad), leader of the LCC, with its allotments and sense of space for those living in flats and tenements in Tottenham and its model traffic area which apparently reflected their interest in a co ordinated public transport system. On its opening day 500 children queued from 8am for tickets."

Not sure whether that will swing it for you or not...:)
I came on holiday to London when I was little - this must be nearly 30 years ago - and the two things I remember most are the Nat. History museum and the model traffic area at Lordship rec. We hired bikes - it was brilliant! I'd forgotten any details of it until I moved in nearby and rediscovered it while out running.
However despite that nostalgic tale, I'm not sure it warrants the status of historic feature. City farm might be nice.
There is a lot on the history of the Rec on their official website
I know there's been alot of buzz in the Haringey webverse. I've had three different emails about it! I've posted it twice on Twitter with the link and been banned (temp) from Facebook posting for placing a link in some of the Haringey Facebook groups. Where else can we put it, I wonder?
Ah Flickr!
Noticed that the Moselle Brook part is part of the
London Rivers action plan

and I'm boosting this back to latest to remind people to vote if they haven't already
