Agreed, Esp, like the droll TinCanToucan- "Harringay, where every left wing nut-job cuts their teeth, before moving on to cause chaos elsewhere." andID9552055  who perhaps has dined out locally and opines- "If you like gasoline kebabs and petrol fumed grills, you're in luck"

"Harringay has up and come"

errr no it hasn't. We still have spitting, urinating in broad daylight, fly-tips, mattresses galore and filthy streets!

What about all the urban gardening that now goes on? Selale, Bun & Bar, Hala etc? Years ago there was a CAMRA review of the Salisbury expounding on its splendid interior and finishing with something like "it's a shame about the horrible sights that greet you when you step outside". I think it looks amazing now.

I appreciate that there are still problems but it's nothing like what it used to be and you get dumped mattresses and drunks peeing in public in Crouch End too.

I still don't go in the Salisbury as I still think of it as the sleazy drug den where there was a stabbing most months. People tell me it's very gentrified these days though

Hi tigha, if you would like to go for a drink there I will take you! Its a lovely pub with a good selection of beer, relaxed and friendly, weekly pub quiz, lots of locals, very good bangers and mash, stunning interior. You have been missing out if you think that its sleazy.

At 4 pm tonight there will be a community choir outside the Salisbury and at 5 pm Harringay Christmas lights will be turned on, and no doubt many will then go for a drink inside so a good opportunity to visit.

Do you mean East Harringay or East Haringey? (And by Green Lanes, I take it you mean Harringay). Where do you live by the way?

So you do mean Harringay then. (Click the link in my last comment should you be curious enough to want to be au fait with the difference between Harringay and Haringey).

I think you're being rough on East Harringay. I'm not that familiar with Harringay Road, but most of the Woodlands Park Estate to the east of you is pretty nice these days.

Rename the area 'North Stokey By North West', judging by your comments.

Stoke Newington gentrified? It hasn' t really changed much in the 20 odd years I' ve known it ... around Church St at least. Yes some change for sure along the High St. Stoke Newington to me has always looked like an island of the white middle class desperately clinging onto their Church St bubble of calm whilst all around them there's a fair amount of poverty and the daily grind to survive from one day to the next. Not the best part of London that I've come across. Prefer Harringay.

Harringay also has lantern parades!!!

Today -

3:15 Fairland Park

4 pm Railway Fields

4 15 pm The Gardens, Community Garden

Then onto the Salisbury for a Community Choir and Christmas Lights at 4-5 pm.
