Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Through previous discussions on HoL, I somehow took on liaising with the project manager, Paul Dever, who has been helpful in giving me updates in in order to feedback on HoL. After a maze of beaurocracy, work is starting now and this is what he had to say:

"Further to my earlier correspondence in regards to the Harringay Green Lanes bridge works, I can confirm that we have now secured approval from Network Rail for the proposed installation of new signage and lighting on the bridge. The works are expected to start today and, assuming that we do not run into any technical issues, should complete by the end of March 2015".

Strangely they seem to be putting up the letters without repainting the bridge - see photo taken tonight. Unless they are just setting things up & then they detach them to repaint?

Or is this to give it an urban realist appearance?

Not sure about the sainsbury's Orange, what is it about Harringay and Sainsbury's ?

I think it's actually London Overground orange - but it's pretty similar to the Sainsbury's one

The letters are all up on the south side and look good - but the bridge itself looks awful! Hope it will be thoroughly cleaned of all the old paint and corrosion then fully repainted and not left as is...
Without a decent paint job it's going to look terrible. It seems odd to put the signs up before any painting.

Why couldn't they just paint it on, like at Bruce Grove?

Probably ££££s.

I recently noticed a well painted bridge at Camden Road station.  That is also an Overground station.  It no longer has the Ferodo advert as can be seen on Street View.  The name of the station is painted in large letters right across the street on freshly painted ironwork and then again in mirror image.  Not sure why, but it looks quite good.

I'm guessing you mean this one.

I share Ben's fear about how this might end up looking.  Surely there has been prior coordination with the painters of bridges.  It sounds as though Pav's maze may still have an undiscovered turning or dead end to discover. In any event his novel spelling, beaurocracy, could end up as an excellent addition to the language.  It could be derived from beau ro crat which, acording to urban dictionary, might mean beautiful heterosexual democrat!

The bridge is a long-running saga, Pav. Check the posts linked via the tag I've added under your original post.

Rob from Harringay Traders has told me that no painting is planned but that they will try and tidy it up.
