Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Over at this discussion about the Harringay Green Lanes bridge lots of comment about its condition and its use for advertising, particularly as the bridge serves as a gateway to our area. Also at this discussionback in 2009.

One topic mentioned was re-decoration of the bridge. It was noted how good the Seven Sisters bridge looked after its refurbishment;

Compare this to Harringay bridge;

I sent off an enquiry to Network Rail. I'm posting their reply here so we have it on record;

Our structures department have responded that the paint system is not in bad condition, and that the bridge is projected to be refurbished around 2018. This will cost 160k.

I was living in Seven Sisters at the time that bridge was refurbished. We, as local residents, got to vote on the colour scheme.
We kinda had a vote too. Unfortunately they ignored us.
£160K?................ What are they planing to do; Gold Plate it?
I like the Seven Sisters colour scheme. Yes £160k would be about right for this sort of project. That would include all aspects of the project, not just the paint and the decorators! You've got 7 years inflation built in too I'd guess.
I think the funding for the Seven Sisters one was part of the New Deal for Communities.
Yes it was.

Yep - keep it simple

I wonder how the £160K refurbishment in 4 years time will affect the current plans for the bridge?

I agree with Phil re those banners. They're awful and I see them all over the borough.

The council sell advertising in public places (those banners) to raise money for things like ASBOs at £75K a pop, gated communities and legal fees after social services scandals. They NEED those advertisements.

It's 'council policy' to encourage (even more) volunteering in these hard pressed times. If they or Network Rail arrange for the scaffold I'm more than happy to paint the bridge a nice royal blue. Promise not to do so after closing at the Salisbury. Will leave the lettering to one of our many local artists ... Up for a 2014 spring start. Why wait another 4 years!

Like all paint jobs, it's not the top coat that takes time and effort.  A proper job means taking off all the old paint first. Lookit that rust. That must be what costs, including masks for H&S re lead, plus scaffolding, road closures, re-routing buses, commissioning font designers...  and barbed wire to keep the little sods with their spraycans away .

Just like Seven Sisters bridge is fine by me if we want to avoid the Harringay/Green Lanes argument.
