Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!
Harringay 2023
There is no doubt that Harringay is changing. New cafes, Green lanes regeneration, Harringay Market, possibly a new Cross Rail in Turnpike lane in 2030; not to mention HoL that has certainly bought the community together. House price continue to rise above the London average.
What do people think Harringay will be like in 2023. Will it be an extension of Crouch End, will the Turkish influence be as strong, or will we find Pizza Express.
Are there any particular restaurants or shops people would like to see on our high street?
My thoughts are that people will continue to move from flats and house in Crouch End, Muswell Hill etc to houses in Harringay. They will want many the same feel of the area they have moved from. Hence I see the Turkish influence being diluted with other restaurants, shops and a wine bar. I think that could make really atmosphere.
Any other thoughts?

I boasted enthusiastically to my Uncle visiting from Australia yesterday of all our local Kurdish restaurants and their fantastic gaming of the online review systems used in London.
Around March last year I was walking south from the Salisbury about 8:30 on a Sunday night and overheard young people calling to one another about the queue sizes at some of the restaurants. Their expansion has been a resounding endorsement of the Capitalism model, which is really the only thing a bunch of right-on lefties in Harringay could be expected to moan about.

Hi Jessica, I think you read the 'here' in my comment as meaning 'on this forum', not 'here' as 'in Haringey', which is what I meant.
I wouldn't criticise HoL, it's awesome and does a great job of supporting local businesses of all kinds.

Yep I agree with your sentiments too Roger. I am hoping there are big improvements to come because they are needed. I don't think I'm alone in saying I moved here because it was more affordable than Crouch End not because I particularly like it! It's great to see places like Blend and Moka appear but there is certainly room for more of a mix. The filthiness of the area always makes me feel depressed.

Maybe people should stop using the "regeneration" word and start saying exactly what it is they want.
Improvement to the quality of life.
A better public realm and green/leisure services - yes
Improvement to public transport - yes.
A variety of shops offering a range of produce so that you don't have to leave your neighbourhood to get essentials - yes.
A mix of housing options to cater for the diverse needs of London's population.
No ghettos! Is that utopian?
Gentrification (creating rich ghettos) is not what is needed. Improvement for all is!

When we first moved here in the early eighties there was a Wimpy and , I think, the Greek Cypriot place that is still next to The Garden Ladder. Can't remember anywhere else to eat. The upsurge in new eating places over the last few years has been great and the mix will keep changing and evolving.

Don't forget "Yasmin" which used to be where "The Garden Ladder" is now. I think it used to be called "Akash" prior to that. It would be very nice for a while, then deteriorate and then the "Under New Management" sign would go up, but the guy with the naval design white outfit would still be there.

There was also of course "Criterion Steak House." It was where "Vllaznia" is now. I was a big fan. The steaks were huge with sauce of choice and side dishes of mushrooms, onion rings and chips. Yum yum.
