Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

With a canny eye on timing Haringey Council have just launched their Football Development Plan for the borough.

The three-year plan aims to:

  • develop a mini soccer league and set up more male and female teams at youth and adult levels as well as two teams of disabled people
  • promote the FA skills programme
  • develop coaching and refereeing
  • provide multi-use games areas across the borough
  • set up a player development centre with the Tottenham Hotspur Academy

The plan ensures that key partners within the borough help to deliver the plan including working alongside Tottenham Hotspur Football Club and using existing facilities like White Hart Lane Community Sports Centre has a hub for borough-wide football development programmes to ensure that the most talented young players in the borough are given the opportunity to play at the highest levels.

The footie scheme comes just weeks after a similar plan launched for tennis.

bid to help England win 2016 World Cup?

Would that be in the Special Olympics? Or a Special Consolation WC for fatigued failures from the 2014 affair?
Think it's just a befuddled me.
2014 world cup is in Brazil,
England dont need to turn up,should we sent the scots instead. This will save us embarrassment
Does Scotland play football?
@Stuart it might help help if the country would decide how it wants to appear internationally.

I think at the Olympics you come on as Great Britain (Team GB) ..I presume this doesn't then include Northern Ireland who are then excluded or play with The Republic of Ireland?
Or as in Football when all 4 put up their own teams..

Maybe it is time to field a United Kingdom team in Football.? Rather than the tribal England, Wales, Scotland and N.I. and add an extra 15 Million hopefuls to the already 51.5 Million England hopefuls which might help.

No, no, no that's just wrong, plus you wouldn't get any players in from Scotland, Wales, NI there not good enough even by Englands poor standards.
OK, accept your point Birdy, but why not then appear at the Olympics as 4 countries.. and in tennis too!

I think it's a bit like trying to hedge your bets.. don't you?
People here, often ask me why that it is, most don't see why it should be allowed?

For instance why don't we have a Prussian team and a Bavarian team - well Bayern München had 11 players in the World Cup semi-finals anyway..

But to outsiders it seems unfair..
How many teams could 'Belgium' have ?
@James Three: a French one, a Flemish one and a very small German one- Called Eupen-Malmedy, the bit of land they stole acquired after WW1
If 'we' appeared as a UK team FIFA would frown upon this and state that we can either appear as the UK or individual nations, not both. If we did supply a UK football team to the olympics, we would be barred from competing as four separate nations by FIFA. I would imagine the only support a unified team would get would be from non footballing folk.
That's OK, but can't you see the contradiction in all this?
Team GB currently play football in the Olympics
