I just posted about this on another thread (thank you Hugh for passing me over) I asked the guy what it was all about and he said there had been an increase in complaints about illegal bedsits popping up and they are having a crack down on the ladders.
I live on Mattison Road and we apparently have a new one which has attracted a number of recent complaints (not that I noticed!)
Hello,
Two middle aged women were doing this yesterday Thursday 14th October 2010 on Allison Road, N8. Offered no explanation, and no presentation of ID. Gabbled that they were from the council and then asked the question. I closed the door on them. Unprofessional! More training. I guess my reaction was a hangover from last winter's snow and the non closing of the road & ticketing of all our cars when the road was being tarmaced.
Still I wished I had answered them as this is something that is to be applauded!

Stuart, your visit could have been part of the Harringay Week of Action street enforcement patrols which were also going on this week.
My visit was definitely related to HMOs because he challenged me when I said it was one house as to why I'd got 2 bells and 2 gas meters. When I invited him to look over the house, he then seemed to accept that we had reconverted back to one house. Well, good for him, not just accepting what I said.
We had similar, because our house had had planning permission to be converted to flats in the eighties (but there's no evidence it ever was) and it was on the list as two flats - I also invited the chap in to check, and he accepted that it was one house.
