and Liz Santry. Good lord!
And Liz Santry (sp).

I assume they have resigned their responsibilities, not as councillors per se. Otherwise, if there are two by-elections this council could swing to Lib Dem.
Indeed. Sharon Shoesmith to go after Ed Balls responds to review??
Shoesmith is out - confirmed.
Where d'you see that Matt? Are you in league with Rupert Murdoch too?!
No further updates from the devil or beeb. Inside sources eh Matt??
Just saw this on the BBC; nothing on the Haringey site.

Why now? Does this mean they've seen the report and are jumping before being pushed??
I think Mr Balls and his department may have "had a word" after seeing the report and made a couple of crisis management recommendations. Surely Sharon Shoesmith has to go too??
Annie - you scooped me!

The BBC report is here: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7757893.stm
I know Sky is the devil, but whenever there's an important news story breaking, in my opinion they always seem to poop all over the BBC and get the scoop first. Damn you Murdoch!
This from the Times Online:
The Haringey Council spokesman said: "We can confirm that both Councillor George Meehan and Councillor Ms Santry have resigned from their current posts as leader of the council and cabinet member for children and young people." , suggests that they have not stepped down as councillors but as officials.
I would think it highly unlikely that they would resign as local councillors. That did not happen last time over Victoria Climbie, as I recall.
I think Matt must have sky on, Shoesmith's removal just been announced on there
