Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Even though uniform is sold quite cheaply in many chain stores and most schools have generic colour schemes, finding the extra money to kit out your soon-to-be-a-secondary school pupil may still be difficult if money is tight.

If you, or someone you know, is dreading finding the cash to kit out your child for September, here's how you can get a one off grant to help with costs.

One off grants may be available of £60 if you get one of the benefits, shown below, or NASS support  and your child is transferring to a secondary in September 2013 at age 11:

  • Income Support
  • Income Based Job Seekers Allowance
  • Income Related Employment and Support Allowances ESA(IR)
  • Child Tax Credit providing you are not entitled to Working Tax Credit and your annual income as assessed by Revenues and Customs is below £16,190
  • Guaranteed Element of State Pension Credit
  • Or if you are supported by NASS and supported under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999. You must provide your NASS reference number.

You do not need to submit evidence of the above benefit or NASS support that you get as they will check centrally if you qualify.

If this is your first application applying for a clothing grant you will need submit one of the following:

  • A letter from the Child Benefit Agency (the letter must give the child's, or children’s, names and for a clothing grant your child’s medical card also)
  • A long/full birth certificate showing your child’s name and parent(s) names.

Full guidance notes on applying for the clothing grant can be found here [pdf]and the application form is available here [pdf]

Closing date is 31st March 2014
