Harringay online

Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Where do you buy yours? I want a decent chest of drawers, solid wood, that I will still like and can still use in 20 years time. However, I am finding that these can be pretty pricey - I'd like to pay under £300 if possible. Rather than going somewhere like John Lewis, I'm interested in supporting a local business, if possible - and getting something a little more unique in the process, I hope. Any recommendations of any North London gems? I'd consider both new and used.

We're very happy with the chest of drawers we bought from Disneys on Green Lanes. They can order them for you in different sizes.

For quality and longevity, at a reasonable price, look for well made second hand furniture. You may find something that needs rubbing down and re-oiling or varnishing; the work will make you love it more!

I'm writing from the experience of a furniture maker.

I agree with Gerry.

Somewhere in the Chocolate Factory?  Lots of small artisan workers there.

Hey dawnage, looks like everyone may have done your shopping for you, if this item takes your fancy (£299)from Kaitlyn's link above :)
I like that website! And all the better for giving business to people recognised as nice and offering good service. :D

We have bought a few bits from parlourroominteriors.com and have been really happy with the service and prices! Would highly recommend.

Also Home Sense at Staples Corner has good qulaity furniture at good prices.

We bought our oak chest of drawers from Criterion in Islington - they only cost about £120. We stripped it back and some of the wood on the drawers was a bit far gone, but we just painted the drawer front white and it looks great.

We've also bought some lovely furniture from Of Special Interest in Crouch End. They do old and new stuff, I think it's reasonably priced, but it's not cheap. Everything we've bought from there lasts really well and the old stuff especially is solid because it was built to last.

I hadn't thought of auction houses! Yes, that could be the place for a bargain - £120 sounds brilliant!
I bought most of my furniture from Criterion - antique furniture is really unfashionable at the moment, and you can buy a good solid Victorian chest of drawers much cheaper than something flimsy from Ikea.  They have an online catelouge which is updated every Friday for Monday's auction, and you can enter a bid online.
