Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!
Front garden dug up and concreted without notice
We are seeking some advice please.
We got home from work yesterday to find that our entire front shared garden had been dug up and half of it cemented for the installment of a bin refuse. There are three flats in our building - two privately owned (we're private), and one council. Neither of the private owners were notified of this work, which was apparently done at the request of the council tenant living in the ground flat. The building freehold is owned by the council.
When we moved in two years ago we cleared the garden of weeds, dug it over, and had been looking after it since. I planted a large number of bulbs and perennial plants over the course of last year, ready for spring. All of these are now gone.
We have lodged a formal complaint with Homes For Haringey but were told they could not stop work until they had investigated the complaint and would "rectify" the situation if found to be at fault. How can you replace a season's worth of growing?
I'm wondering if anyone else has had similar experiences? And if there is anything that you think we should be doing?

Also signed. I'm not a knee-jerk petition signer, but the concreting of front gardens is something I've written about before and this sounds like complete stupidity.

Aleece, before I sign petitions or anything else I'd like to know some more of what's happened and the response Cllr Karen Alexander has had on your behalf.
As this involves your personal situation, Karen as the councillor representing you, is not able to pass on this information without your express permission. Can I please suggest that you talk to Karen about what you may be willing to share.

Petition signed - another ludicrous decision by the council

This evening we spoke with our upstairs neighbour who received a letter from the council this week containing two sets of hand-drawn plans for the concrete bin refuse. Both of these were in the garden. He objects to this being in the garden and is responding in writing by tomorrow's deadline.
In the letter the council offer to "waive" the fee for the installation. Interestingly, if the installation reaches the amount that leaseholders are charged then there is a legal obligation to consult everyone.We have asked Cllr Alexander for further advice about next steps and progress she has made so far.

Dear all,
We received notice this morning that the Council are not going to proceed with putting the bin refuse in our shared garden, because the majority said "no". I'd just like to thank you for your support and encouragement in fighting this, at times, outrageous situation.
Our next step is asking the council to put back the soil that they removed.
