Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

A new report from the Audit Commission tackles the problem of fraud. The report identifies specific risks that are often not adequately addressed, to do with housing tenancy, council tax and recruitment fraud.

As it says, in the blurb, "Every pound lost to cheats is a pound that cannot be used for people in real need."

This is interesting, especially in the light of the obvious council tax fraud that goes on in Harringay when houses get illegally converted into flats but aren't registered as such on the council tax registers. The report talks a lot about abuse of the 25% single person discount, but I'd have thought that around here incorrect registration is an issue too. Wouldn't it be great if there was a way of spotting this, and linking up between the depts that use flats to house people, the planning permission section and council tax registration.. Obvious rules like, don't put people into illegal conversions, or with landlords who are trying to diddle their council tax.

Which 'Socialist Borough' would that be, Bob? Surely not Haringey?
Human rights, socialism and fraud are all unrelated.

Well done for getting them all into a 4 line post.
