Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!
Fox problem
We are experiencing a real fox problem in our garden, to the point where the smell of the foxes is so strong that we cannot use our garden and haven’t been able to for a couple of weeks now.
Trying all sorts of deterrents but nothing is making a strong enough impact. We also have a dog who barks a lot in the garden due to the foxes at night.
The property behind us have really neglected their garden and the foxes are making dens there.
Is anyone experiencing a similar thing, or have any advice?
We are on Lausanne Rd on the Ladder.

We had exactly the same situation. The only solution is to mark your territory. And the only way the fox understands you've done this is, um, pee. A little tinkle where the fox gets in about twice a week keeps him/her/them 100% at bay.

Hello well done asking for advice as foxes are protected from cruelty or killing by the wild Mammal Protection Act.
Foxes are indigenous wild animals and have never been legally classified as vermin.
As with most problems for humans by animals is because they have had to survive with the loss of the habitat that we humans have without much thought for other creature turned the land into farms towns and cities.
Fox families have their own patch of land the can make home at a certain age the male goes to set up home and we make it harder each year. By our urbanisation that disturbs and reduces the natural food that foxes eat,
So it is the overgrown property has become home for a fox family. But don't despair there are solutions.

It's unusual to have a smell problem as a den would be a place they feel safe but a shed or outbuild can become a den as the Vixen will dig access underneath but only if people done visit. So that could be an avenue to explore.

While it is undoubtedly true and desirable that wild animals are protected from cruelty, I venture to doubt that their protection from killing is particularly wide under the Act quoted. Pest control is lawful and so is humane killing of pests.

Me too.
I've spent a lot on deterrents, granules, gel sprinkles, electric signal devices, but they don't work in the long term. I understand it's male pee or lion poo that does deter foxes but surely the smell of those is just as off putting as fox pee?

I have used successfully Silent Roar (which is based on lions) to stop foxes digging up plants that have recently been put in. I didn't notice any smell but foxes have very sensitive noses. Unfortunately, using Silent Roar to banish foxes entirely from the garden would be wholly impractical.
