Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

After the 3rd recent London flooding in Stoke Newington this week http://www.standard.co.uk/news/london/stoke-newington-flooding-dram...
Does anyone know what steps Haringey is taking to ensure our drains will cope?

Blimey  What a mess. Just had my mum texting me about this.

It made me think of a pic I took earlier at the Mattison end of the Pem-Mat Passage. Not quite the same scale of potential impact I am sure but leaving drains in a condition like this will not help if we get a heavy downpour. I reported several drains earlier in the year after a downpour saw parts of the Passage heads flooded out. I have seen quite a few in this state.

It's not up to the Council to "ensure our drains will cope". The drains are owned by the water companies not Councils. You could argue that Councils should have emergency planning proceres in place to cope with the aftermath, which they do for "civil emergencies" in general.

The council is responsible for keeping the drain gullies clean and free-flowing, which is what this thread is about, I think. Yes the drain network is down to water companies.  Discussion from earlier here:

As for drains able to cope with catastrophic flooding like Upper Street and Stoke Newington, they can't even when working properly: a 30 - 36 inch water main under pressure delivers far more water than even the fiercest thunderstorm across, say, a 100 metre radius.

OMG, I hadnt realised it had affected stokey, thats so close and so terrible. that drain is near my house, i will make sure it is clear as I dont want my lovely flat to look like this in that video, but yes the council should be on top of it and part of what they do when they clean our roads
