Very strange striptease style of consultation results communication, but it appears that the results are out and the plans have been dropped.

Totally with Osbawn and Doro on this. I was worried that this would turn out to be one of those 'consultations' on decisions already made. On a more general point, is it possible in these situations to actually find out whether local opposition has swayed opinions within the Council and affected the outcome or if other factors, political or economic have been the deciding factors?

Just out of interest where is there any local authority owned football facilities? There's tennis, basketball but I for one can't think of any proper football facilities? I'm against the commercial entity but pro the facilities part.

I don't know about Haringey, but in Islington, there's the Islington Tennis Centre (which has astroturf football pitches too, and the Finsbury (not Park) Sports Centre, which has five-a-side. They are owned by the council, but run by a not-for-profit charity that ploughs back proceeds into the facilities.

My point exactly, I don't think Haringey offers any decent five a side or full size facilities for "even more football" but many for tennis, basketball, skating and the like. There is a serious lack of LA owned football facilities (considering the participation rate in the country). I think peoples perception of football and who it attracts is sometimes misguided. As I have stated in previous posts, I never saw any vigorous objection to the Tennis Courts (and land it stood on) slightly below this plot, albeit I understand quite different to the proposed commercial development.

I have to say, the only reasons I know about Islington and not about Haringey are because I've only just moved to Haringey, from Islington, and I don't play football so it hasn't been on my priority list of things to find out about!

Well a quick nose around the Internet brings up the following and this is probably not exhaustive. There are also facilities in Islington at the Sobell centre which is a mere 29 bus ride away.
White Hart Lane Community Sports Centre has extensive facilities for football (and rugby) and Tottenham run a lot of their training there. I have been there myself as my daughter went to a girls football course there and the facilities are pretty good.
There are also some listed at Muswell Hill and Albert Rec here
Tottenham Green Leisure Centre is listed as having 2 five a side pitches here and a junior soccer course for 6 -12s
Alexandra Park FC also say on their website that they are constantly on the lookout for new players and run 9 teams, including a 'veterans' . They also run a Youth football club
I should mention that the Spurs Foundation do a lot as well
