Fire at Harringay Petrol Station

I'm fairly sure where the Homebase is on GL there has been a similar shop at that location since at least the mid 80s? Don't recall there ever being a petrol station there?

Yes the petrol station did exist. The first DIY shop in roughly that location was Texas Homecare. The other (main) occupant of the site of what's now the Retail Park was a cash & carry, later joined by the Royal Mail local delivery office round the back.

You can see the location of the petrol station on this late 1940s aerial shot. Below it is the old Harringay Market and the Arena. Opposite is Endymion Roas and Finsbury Park.

Here is the same area mapped from 1955.

Then, if you view this 1970s image full size by clicking on \View Full sise' uner the photo. You can see the side of Texas under the 'ay' of Harringay n the watermark. You can also just see the sign of the petrol station as in the excerpt below.
