Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

This handsome fellow was sitting yesterday on a cane among the tomato plants.

How obliging of it to stay still!.

Did the dragon fly?

Whether it was the dragonfly which flew or the dragonflew which fled, it certainly scarpered when I began to work on tying up the tomato plants.

This particular insect didn't oblige with any impressive aerobatics but I remember one just like it that caught a moth in flight.  There was an audible scrunch as it chewed the moth's torso leaving its wings to flutter down to earth.

Probably not yours given where you are on the Ladder Dick, but I saw a large similar colour dragonfly as I was waiting at the Green Lanes/Endymion Rd traffic lights. Surprise!

Looks like an Emperor Dragonfly. Biggest UK species.

Super photo of a large dragonfly.

I usually see plenty of striped ones over my pond, after the damsel flies have left, but this year there has not been one.
