Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!
Double glazed sashes in Harringay?
Getting chilly again so back to worrying about sash windows and how/when to replace them.
We got all the windows in our bedroom (three-window bay and one on the side) replaced with new timber units but it cost us a £8000 - and that was the cheapest offer we got (for scale, relatives up north got a house twice the size done in its entirety for £12000)
Does anyone have any good wooden sash advice?

We used the Original Box Sash Window company who did the installation in 1986. Still going strong almost 40 years later. Can’t recall the price I’m afraid by there’s a free quote tool on their website.

We had all our sash windows refurbed a couple of years ago - all window units replaced with double glazed units, existing frames repaired/refurbished, new mechanisms installed, window locks etc. 1 x three window bay and 5 x normal sliding sash windows .
Used these guys who are based in Haringey and did a great job. http://www.acornsashwindows.co.uk/

I had the same done - three-window bay and one next to it - with the added detail (and expense) of arches, back in 2018. l chose a specialist sash company in Wandsworth (alas it looks like they no longer exist) and l had little change left from £10k opting for specially made wood sashes mirroring the original. I wanted to be sympathetic to the building as there were no other surviving Victorian details in the flat. l am so glad l did. They are so beautiful and l admire them everyday. They still look fantastic six years on (they are not showing signs of paint peal yet) and of course the improvement in the heat and acoustics of my room, as well as the almost complete removal of condensation build up in the Winter months, was well worth it. I had my flat valued in 2020 and the first thing the Winkworth agent noticed were the windows. He said they were a good selling point and certainly added value to the property. Yes, it’s an eye watering amount to part with, but l have no regrets. I hope that helps. PS some of my neighbours ignored the arched shape of their windows and put in rectangular UPV windows. I may be biased but l think they look utterly awful.

We have just had all our house windows priced - we are on the ladder - prices ranged from 22k to 30k happy to share details of quotes.

As we are in London all costs are a lot more we had our front bay done and window next to it on first floor at front of property all in accoya wood double glazed brand new box frames and sashes and we paid £1,500 plus vat each window 5 years ago for 7 windows in total. We’ve used Stroud Green Windows for our last property and our current one, probably had about 25 windows installed by them, sash double glazed. They are wonderful and I’d highly recommend.

And if memory serves it was roughly around £1k per window depending on the size/spec

I can second Acorn who did a good job on all our front windows last year and cleaned up well afterwards.
So expensive, but we got quotes from 3 local supplier / installers and Acorn was competitive and very professional in their project management.

Muswell Hill Joinery in Hornsey High street, used to fit thin double glazed sealed units in sash windows at a reasonable price. Don't know if they still do that. You can buy kits for sash windows to stop drafts and heavy lined curtains for the night time.
